Cindy is a Functional Nutrition Therapist who incorporates aspects of yoga in her nutrition practice to promote body and mind wellness. As a Functional Nutrition Therapist, Cindy supports her clients’ wellness by looking to root body functions, rather than temporary symptom management. She is a CT state and board-certified nutritionist with a Masters in Human Nutrition.
Functional Nutrition Therapy follows the basic premise that the food you eat, affects the way your body functions at a biochemical level, and any symptoms you may be struggling with are clues for which specific body function(s) need to be supported & nourished.
Think of your body as a tree with roots spreading out below the surface. A tree with well nourished, healthy roots flourishes and thrives, producing lush, full leaves. In contrast, the tree with poorly nourished, unhealthy roots has branches filled with symptoms. Only by tending to the roots can you improve the health of the tree.
As your personal nutritionist, Cindy looks to the roots of the tree, considering your individual symptoms and health issues. By outlining foods you should eat, foods you should avoid and nutraceutical supplements to support your ‘root’ body functions, your symptoms lessen or even disappear, and your tree flourishes with lush leaves as you experience vibrant health and wellness.
Cindy recognizes many of her nutrition clients who struggle with chronic health disorders are often overwhelmed by the physical and the mental strains of their illnesses. As Cindy’s personal yoga practice has been a calming force in her own journey, she often incorporates recommendations for yoga therapeutically to her clients. She is a RYT-200 registered yoga teacher and focuses on supporting her clients in establishing a home yoga practice, and developing awareness of breath and energy flow through the physical poses. She loves designing yoga flows around the energy chakras and in support for many of the chronic health challenges she sees in her nutrition practice.
Cindy not only practices as a nutrition and yoga therapist, she has lived it for more than 25 years on her personal journey toward health and wellness. She first discovered nutrition therapy and later yoga, as she worked through her own weight issues, dysfunctional eating, gluten sensitivity and trauma healing. As your health and wellness partner, Cindy will consider you beyond the limitations of any diagnosis, age or symptom. If you are willing to make the commitment for your best wellness, she is willing to guide you, and you can be assured there is no challenge she will ask of you that she has not similarly asked of herself.
